Wise up with water WCD style
In an age where dehydration is fast become one of the most common topics of conversation as far as staying healthy is concerned, it was nice to see that UK schools are taking this seriously. Add a pinch of fun and you get the idea of the ‘Wise up with Water challenge' launched by the Natural Hydration Council with the help from The Children's Food Trust.
The Details
The idea behind this health conscious competition was to encourage UK schools to think of original ways to stay on top of hydration throughout the day, essentially to remind children to drink water on a regular basis. The schools certainly threw themselves into the task and posters were created, sticky labels were added to bottles of water saying ‘drink me' and a whole host of other great suggestions were thrown into the mix.
The Winners
Okay, there can only be one winner but the competition certainly achieved its objective and that was to make our school children more aware of the effects of dehydration. Bolton-by Bowland CE Primary School were announced as the eventual winners and one of their innovative ideas was to nominate a pupil to be ‘water champion'. He or she would be the child who managed to drink the most water on a daily basis and others were challenged to match this feat. Although other schools may have narrowly missed out on the prize, it was literally refreshing to see how many bright ideas were born from this excellent competition.
Hydration for Kids
It is vital that our children stay hydrated because due to their size and the fact that kids have a higher proportion of body water when compared to adults, they really need to avoid dehydration. This is especially important during school hours because dehydration will cause a lack of concentration, fatigue and dizziness in our children. By installing drinking fountains around a school, children will be able to drink water between lessons and avoid the risks of dehydration throughout the long school day.
WaterCoolersDirect Campaign
WaterCoolersDirect are only too aware of the risks that our children face when they are away from the home and in school from Monday to Friday. This is why we have launched our Hydration in Schools Campaign. We are donating free refurbished water coolers and water bottles to the schools across the UK to help encourage kids to drink more water and allow schools to show their support for this healthy way of living.
